ऐसे हैं गुरुदेव हमारे

5 फरवरी, 1954 को गुरुदेव का पार्थिव शरीर मर्यादा अनुकूल समता योग आश्रम जगाधरी के प्रांगण में आतिश (अग्नि) के नज़र कर
दिया गया और आपकी अस्थियों को अगले रोज़ ताजेवाला हैड वर्क्स के पास हथनी कुंड बंगले से नीचे यमुना की लहरों के सुपुर्द
कर दिया गया, जिन्होंने आपके तप और त्याग के सूक्ष्म तत्त्वों को वर्षों से अपने आंचल में समोया हुआ था क्योंकि गुरुदेव
यमुना के इसी किनारे पर कई वर्ष तप कर चुके थे और अब शव यात्रा के अंतिम क्षणों में यमुना की वही लहरें आपकी अस्थियों को
क्षीर-सागर के उस पार ले जाने के लिए तैयार थीं। अस्थियां एक-एक करके लहरों के आंचल में समा गईं और आन की आन में लहरें
ऐसे स्थान पर ले गईं जहां इनका पता लगना तो मुश्किल है लेकिन जब कभी भी यमुना के उस पार खड़ा होने का मौका मिलता है और जब
कभी चारों तरफ सन्नाटा सा छाया हुआ होता है, लहरों पर तैरता हुआ हवा का झोंका आकर कहता है- ‘‘आपके महबूब मेरे भी
महबूब हैं। पहले मैं उनके चरण स्पर्श से ज़िंदा था, अब वह मेरे प्राणों के प्राण और जीवन के जीवन हैं। जैसे वे
हरदम आपके अंग-संग हैं वैसे ही वे मेरे भी अंग-संग हैं और फिर मेरी पूजा का केन्द्र बिन्दु तो वही हैं। ईश्वर आज्ञा हुई
तो फिर इन्हें किसी युग में आपके बीच लेकर आऊंगा।’’ यह थी गाथा उस महान योगी की जो कुछ ही अर्सा पहले हमारे बीच
में थे और अब नज़रों से ओझल होकर भी हमारे अंग-संग हैं।

श्री सतगुरुदेव महात्मा मंगतराम जी महाराज जी का जन्म दिनांक 24 नवंबर सन 1903 को गांव गंगोठियां ब्राह्मणा जिला
रावलपिंडी (पाकिस्तान) श्रीमती गणेशी देवी जी और पंडित श्री गौरी शंकर जी के घर हुआ। आप बचपन से ही अध्यात्म की ओर
प्रेरित थे और आगे चल कर आपने अपने जीवनकाल में अध्यात्म की सर्वोच्च अवस्था, “आत्मलीनता”, को प्राप्त
किया। श्री सतगुरुदेव महात्मा मंगतराम जी ने अपने अमली जीवन और सतवचनों एवं विचारों के माध्यम से संसारियों को पाखंड और
कुरीतियों से दूर रहकर सच्चाई व् ईश्वर-भक्ति के मार्ग पर चलने की राह दिखाई। आपके मुखारविंद से जो ईश्वरीय वाणी एवं
सतवचन प्रकट हुए वे सतग्रंथ, “ग्रंथ श्री समता प्रकाश” और “ग्रंथ श्री समता विलास” , सदा ही उन जिज्ञासुओं के लिए मार्गदर्शक
रहेंगे, जो सत्य और आत्मज्ञान के पथ पर चलना चाहते हैं। 4 फरवरी 1954 को गुरु नगरी अमृतसर में आपने अपने नश्वर शरीर का
त्याग कर परम तत्व में विलीन हो गए। हालांकि, आपकी उपस्थिति आज भी आपके वचनों, शिक्षाओं और प्रेरणाओं के रूप में हमारे
हृदयों में जीवित है।

आप फरमाते हैं: “हमारी ड्यूटी खत्म हो चुकी है। अब प्रेमी संगत में एकजुट होकर प्रेमपूर्ण सत्संग,
सद्विचार, और सेवा में समय लगाएं। ईश्वर तुम्हें सत्सेवा का भाव प्रदान करे। अपने गुरु भाइयों और समस्त मानवता से प्रेम
बढ़ाएं। यही सच्ची ईश्वर-भक्ति है। हमें दूर मत समझो, बल्कि हर समय हमें अपने हृदय में अनुभव करो।”

संतों, पीरों, फकीरों का इस धरा पर अवतरण कोई साधारण घटना नहीं है। यह वेदों और शास्त्रों में उल्लेखित है कि जब-जब धर्म
का पतन और अधर्म का उत्थान होता है, तब ईश्वरीय सत्ता किसी न किसी रूप में अवतरित होकर अज्ञानता और अंधकार का नाश करती
है। सतगुरुदेव महात्मा मंगतराम जी भी ईश्वर की आज्ञा से इसी उद्देश्य से इस धरा पर आए। उनका जीवन और उपदेश आज भी सत्य और
ईश्वर-भक्ति के पथ पर चलने वालों के लिए प्रेरणा का स्त्रोत हैं।

सतगुरुदेव जी ने हमें सिखाया कि सच्चा मार्ग केवल प्रेम, सेवा, और ईश्वर में अटूट विश्वास के द्वारा ही संभव है। गुरु के
महत्व को यदि शब्दों में परिभाषित करना हो, तो उनके वचन और उपदेश ही सबसे सटीक परिभाषा हो सकते हैं। एक बार सतगुरुदेव जी
ने अपने एक प्रेमी से कहा था: “प्रेमी, जिस वक्त गुरु को अंतर में अनुभव करोगे, तब गुरु का असली रूप समझ में आएगा। अभी
तो इस शरीर को तुमने गुरु समझ रखा है। उस समय तुम्हें विस्मय का अनुभव होगा। तुम यही सोचोगे कि मैंने समझा क्या था और यह
निकला क्या? तेरा रोम-रोम गुरु को धन्यवाद देगा।”

सतगुरुदेव महात्मा मंगतराम जी के उपदेश और वचन आज भी हमारी आध्यात्मिक यात्रा के मार्गदर्शक बने हुए हैं। उनके विचारों
और आस्था में वे सदैव जीवित हैं। आइए, उनके वचनों का अनुसरण कर अपने जीवन को सार्थक और उन्नत बनाएं।

गुरुदेव जी के प्रेम और आकर्षण की शक्ति

श्री सतगुरुदेव महात्मा मंगतराम जी के पास जो भी प्रेमी आता, वह उनसे प्रभावित हुए बिना नहीं रह पाता। उनकी उपस्थिति में
हर कोई एक अद्भुत खिंचाव और शांति का अनुभव करता। जो भी प्रेमी कुछ दिनों तक उनके संग रहता, उनके हृदय
में ऐसा प्रेम और समर्पण का जज़्बा जागृत हो जाता कि उनके जीवन में एक नई दिशा मिल जाती। जब भी कोई प्रेमी उनसे विदा
लेने लगता, उसकी आँखों में आँसू छलक पड़ते। ऐसा लगता मानो किसी ने उसकी कोई प्रिय वस्तु छीन ली हो। ऐसे क्षणों में
गुरुदेव जी अपने प्रेमियों को धीरज और सांत्वना देते हुए कहा करते थे: “प्रेमियों! हम दूर नहीं हैं। हमको हर समय
अपने हृदय में देखो और धीरे-धीरे इस संसार के बंधनों की कड़ियां तोड़ो। ” गुरु-शिष्य के अटूट प्रेम और करुणा
की गहराई को समझाने के लिए एक प्रसिद्ध वाक्यांश है: “प्रेमी बनारसी, यह तुम शिष्यों से प्रेम करते हैं, तुम
इनसे प्रेम नहीं करते। इनको गुरु-शिष्य दोनों की सार का पता है।” यह संदेश बताता है कि सच्चा प्रेम गुरु और
शिष्य के बीच एक दिव्य संबंध है। यह प्रेम समर्पण, सेवा, और त्याग के माध्यम से ही प्रकट होता है।

आइये, सतगुरुदेव जी के प्रेम और करुणा को अनुभव करें। उनके उपदेश और उनका अमली जीवन हर प्रेमी के लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत
रहे हैं। उनके अनुयायी और शिष्य आज भी हमेशा उनकी असीम कृपा और दयालुता को महसूस करते हैं। इस संदर्भ में, सतगुरुदेव जी
के प्रति उनके शिष्य, प्रेमी देवराज गुप्त जी¹
के भावों को समझने की कोशिश करना न केवल सतगुरुदेव जी के आशीर्वाद और कृपा को समझने का प्रयास है, बल्कि यह इस लेख के
शीर्षक “ऐसे हैं गुरुदेव हमारे” को और गहराई से जानने का अवसर भी है। ऐसे शिष्यों ने अपने अनुभवों और
भक्ति से यह प्रकट किया कि गुरुदेव जी केवल एक शिक्षक या मार्गदर्शक नहीं थे, बल्कि वे प्रेम और भक्ति के ऐसे स्रोत थे,
जिनसे हर कोई जुड़ कर आत्मिक शांति और सत्य की ओर अग्रसर हो रहा है।

प्रेमी देवराज गुप्त जी:

“मेरे परमेश्वर, मेरे गुरु तूने बहुत जल्दी की। मैं क़सम खाकर कहता हूँ किं तूने मुझे कहीं का नहीं छोड़ा
।”

मैं जानता हूँ कि तेरा हमसे बेपनाह प्यार था। मैं जानता हूँ कि तू दयालु और कृपालु दोनों ही एक साथ था। कैसे भूल सकता
हूँ पिछले वर्ष सम्मेलन की वह आखिरी सुबह जबकि मेरी अभागी आँखों ने तुझ से विदा तो ली थी? तूने किस मुस्कराहट से, किस
प्रेम से मेरे पापी सिर पर हाथ रक्खा था! वह कौन-सा जादू था जो कि अब भी मुझे बाँधे हुये है?

फिर भी न जाने मेरे टूटे दिल को शिकायत क्यों है ? तुझ में शक्ति थी ताक़त थी! क्या तू मौत के हमले को कुछ देर तक रोक
नहीं सकता था? शायद तेरी बेरुखी की जिम्मेदारी हम लोगों पर ही है। हमने कब तेरी आज्ञा का पालन किया।
हमने तेरी रहबरी की परवा न की। जब कारवां ने ही मीर-ए-कारवां का साथ न दिया तो वह रुख क्यों न फेर
लेता! तेरी यह जुदाई मेरे लिये इतने अफ़सोस का मुक़ाम नहीं जितना कि शर्म का है!

खैर, अब क्या हो सकता है ? जो होना था सो हो चुका। तेरा शरीर समाप्त हो चुका है लेकिन तेरी आत्मा जीवित है। वह अब भी
हमें फिज़ाओं में से देख रही है। वह अब भी मेरा ईमान है, मेरी उम्मीद है और मेरा सहारा है।

मेरे मालिक, एक बार तूने ही अपनी जुबान-ए-मुबारक से मुझे आशा की झलक दी थी। उस समय मेरे शंकित मन में अनजान में ही तेरी
मौत की चर्चा हुई। मैंने अर्ज किया ‘क्या गुरु मौत के बाद भी मार्गदर्शन करता है? और उत्तर यों था ‘यह तेरी श्रद्धा और
प्रेम पर है। जो सच्चा गुरु होगा वह कई जन्मों तक अपने शिष्य का साथ देता है। यह अटल नियम है।’ मुझे उम्मीद है कि अपने
इस वचन को तू भुला न सकेगा।

आशा-निराशा में उभरते-डूबते ये उद्गार प्रतिनिध्यात्मक कहे जा सकते हैं। प्रेमियों की मानसिक स्थिति ऐसी ही थी।
अस्थिविसर्जन के बाद आश्रम सुनसान हो गया। जो नाउम्मीद हो गये थे उन्होंने अपने आपको सांसारिक कार्यों में लगाया। कुछ एक
संगत के कार्य में तल्लीन हो गये। आये दिन नई से नई योजनाएं बनने लगीं। कुछ प्रेमी बाह्य नियमों को कड़ाई से लागू करने
के लिये छटपटाने लगे। अन्य कुछ देशसुधार और समाजसुधार के स्वप्न देखने लगे। सुधारकवृत्ति तनाव पैदा करने लगी,
मानवीय कमजोरियां अपना रंग दिखाने लगीं। कुछ परहेज़गार बन कर अपनी धाक जमाने लगे, कुछ उदार- वृत्ति होने का
दावा करने लगे, कुछ बीती हुई को सोचकर उदास थे, कुछ भविष्य की सोचकर आशावान् थे। कुछ एक तो गुरु तक भी बन बैठे,
पाखण्ड और आडम्बर फैलाकर दूसरों के कल्याण का दावा करने लगे।

इस खींचातानी के बावजूद संगत की आस्था बनी रही। प्रेमभाव भी बना रहा। जिन्होंने सँसार से मुँह मोड़ा और अपने
अन्दर गुरु की आवाज सुनने की कोशिश की, वे निराश नहीं हुये। उन्होंने गुरुदेव को पहले से भी अधिक निकट पाया।
यह बात उनके निजी अनुभव से सम्बन्ध रखती है। गुरु-आज्ञा है कि साधनाकाल में हुई गुरुकृपा को अपने मन में ही समेटे रहो।
इसलिये इन अनुभवों का वर्णन इन प्रेमियों के जीवनकाल में शायद ही सम्भव हो सके। इसी कारण यह जीवनचरित अधूरा ही रहेगा।
लेकिन इतनी बात अवश्य कही जा सकती है कि गुरुदेव का पहरा आज भी वैसे ही चल रहा है। आपकी उक्ति, “ये पहरा देने
आये थे अब पहरा खत्म है” कम से कम उनके शिष्यों पर लागू नहीं होती- यद्यपि चराचर संसार के प्रति भले ही इसका
कोई व्यावहारिक अर्थ रहा हो। गुरुदेव आज भी उनके प्रेमियों के ठौर हैं, उनकी आशा हैं और उनके परमेश्वर
हैं।

Gurudev: The Divine Presence Among Us

On February 5, 1954, Gurudev’s mortal body was offered to the sacred flames in accordance with Samta Principles at
Samta Yog Ashram, Jagadhri.  The very next day, his mortal remains were handed over to the gentle waves of the
Yamuna, near Hathni Kund Bungalow next to Tajewala Headworks. A river that had long held the quiet essence of
Gurudev penance and sacrifice, for Gurudev had spent many years meditating on its banks. In the final moments of his
earthly journey, those same Yamuna waves were ready to carry his remains beyond the earthly realm.

One by one, the ashes merged into the river’s embrace, and in an instant, the waves carried them away to a place
beyond reach. Yet, whenever one stands on the other side of the Yamuna in quiet solitude, a gentle breeze whispers –

“Your beloved is my beloved too. Once, I lived through the touch of his feet; now, He is the very breath of my
existence. Just as He is always with you, He is forever with me. He is the center of my devotion. If it is God’s
will, I shall bring him back among you in another era.”

This is the story of that great yogi – who, not long ago, walked among us. Though now unseen, his spirit remains
forever a part of us.”

Shri Satgurudev Mahatma Mangat Ram Ji Maharaj was born on November 24, 1903, in the village of
Gangothiyan Brahmana, district Rawalpindi (now in Pakistan), to Shrimati Ganeshi Devi (Mother) and Pandit Shri
Gauri Shankar (Father). From a young age, he was drawn to the spiritual path, and later in life, he attained the
highest state of spiritual union – Aatmleenata.

Through his exemplary life, his divine satvachans, discourses that epitomize pure truth and profound insights, he
guided people along the path of truth and devotion, urging them to shun hypocrisy and falsehood. The sacred messages
he conveyed are preserved in the two scriptures “Granth Shri Samta Prakash” and “Granth Shri Samta Vilas,” which
will forever serve as guiding lights for all seekers of truth and self-realization.

On February 4, 1954, in the holy city Amritsar – the city of seers – he renounced his mortal body and merged with
the Supreme Divine. Yet, even today, his presence endures in our hearts through his timeless teachings, words, and
inspirations.

His holiness said – “His duty is complete. Now, dear devotees, unite in loving fellowship -spend
your time in heartfelt Satsang (divine discourse), uplifting thoughts, and selfless service. May God grant you the
spirit of devoted service. Let your love grow for your guru-brothers and all of humanity. This is true devotion to
God. Do not consider me distant; always feel my presence in your heart.”

The appearance of saints, seers, and fakirs on this earth is no ordinary event. The Veda’s and scriptures declare
that whenever virtue wanes and wickedness ascends, the divine power incarnates in some form to vanquish ignorance
and darkness. Satgurudev Mahatma Mangat Ram Ji, too, came to this earth by God’s command for that very purpose. Even
today, his life and teachings continue to inspire all who walk the path of truth and devotion to God.

Satgurudev taught us that the path of truth can be found only through love, selfless service, and unwavering faith
in God. If one were to define the significance of a guru in words, his teachings and words would be the most precise
description. Once, Satgurudev said to one of his beloved devotees:

“Premi (beloved), when you experience the guru within your heart, only then will you truly see his real form. Right
now, you recognize him only as a physical presence. In that moment, you will be filled with awe – wondering what you
once thought you understood and what is now revealed to you. Every fiber of your being will thank the
guru.”

Satgurudev Mahatma Mangat Ram Ji’s teachings and words continue to guide our spiritual journey even today. He lives
on in his profound insights, teachings and in the faith we hold. Let us follow his words to make our lives
meaningful and uplifted.

The Power of Gurudev’s Love and Attraction :

Every devotee who comes to Satgurudev Mahatma Mangat Ram Ji is invariably moved by his presence. In his company, one
experiences an extraordinary pull and a deep sense of peace. Those who spend even a few days with him find their
hearts filled with a renewed spirit of love and devotion, which guides their lives in a fresh direction. Whenever a
devotee prepares to take leave, tears well up in their eyes—as if a cherished treasure is being taken away. In these
moments, Gurudev would gently offer reassurance, saying, “Premi ! We are never far away. Always see us in
your heart, and slowly break free from the bonds of this world.”

To explain the deep and unbreakable bond of love and compassion between a guru and disciple, a well-known saying
goes:
“Premi Banarasi, it is they(Gurudev) who truly love the disciples, but the disciples do not love
them. They(Gurudev) understand the essence of both the guru and the disciple.”

This message reveals that true love between a guru and disciple is a divine connection. This love is expressed
through devotion, service, and selflessness.

Come, let us experience the love and compassion of Satgurudev Ji. His teachings and his exemplary life have always
been a source of inspiration for every devotee. Even today, his followers and disciples continue to feel his
boundless grace and kindness.

In this context, understanding the sentiments of his disciple, Premi Devraj Gupta Ji, is not only an effort to grasp
Satgurudev Ji’s blessings and grace but also an opportunity to delve deeper into the essence of this article’s
title. Devotees like him have shown through their experiences and devotion that Satgurudev Ji was not just a master
or guide but a fountain of love and devotion, leading everyone toward spiritual peace and truth.

Premi Devraj Gupta Ji:

“My Lord, my Guru, you departed too soon. I swear, you have left me completely lost.”
“I know that your love for us was boundless. I know you were the very embodiment of mercy and compassion. How can I
ever forget that final morning at last year’s gathering, when my sorrowful eyes had to bid you farewell? With what
gentle smile, with what love, did you place your hand upon my sinful head! What magic was that which still holds me
captive today?

And yet, why does my broken heart complain? You possessed such strength and power—could you not have delayed death’s
attack for a little longer? Perhaps it is on us that the blame for your seeming indifference falls. When have we
ever truly obeyed your commands? When have we cared for your guidance? When even the retinue failed to support its
leader, why should it not have turned back? Your separation fills me not only with sorrow but with deep shame.

But what is to be done now? What was destined has come to pass. Your body is gone, yet your soul remains alive—it
still watches over us in the winds, and continues to be my faith, my hope, and my strength.

My master, once you gave me a glimpse of hope with your blessed words. In that moment, even my doubtful heart began
to sense the news of your departure. I asked, ‘Does a guru continue to guide after death?’ and your answer was, ‘It
depends on your devotion and love. A true guru stands by his disciple through many lifetimes. This is an unchanging
law.’ I trust that you will never forget this promise.”

These ups and downs of hope and despair reflect the state of the devotees’ hearts. After the ashes were immersed,
the ashram became empty. Those who lost hope turned to everyday work. Some got deeply involved in community
projects, and new plans were made every day. A few devotees tried hard to enforce strict rules, while others dreamed
of improving the country and society. This push for change brought stress, and human weaknesses began to show. Some
acted very pious to prove their worth, some claimed to be generous, some felt sad about the past, and some looked to
the future with hope. There were even those who started to act as if they were gurus, spreading false pride while
claiming to help others.

Even with all this conflict, the faith of the community stayed strong, and the spirit of love remained. Those who
turned away from the world to listen for the Guru’s inner voice did not lose hope; in fact, they felt Gurudev even
closer than before. The Guru teaches us to keep the grace we receive during our practice in our hearts. Because of
this, it is almost impossible to fully describe these experiences in one lifetime, and this life story will always
feel incomplete.

But one thing is clear: Gurudev’s protection continues as always. Your words, “They came to guard, but now the guard
is over,” do not apply to his disciples—even if they might seem to make sense in the world. For his devotees,
Gurudev remains a safe place, a source of hope, and our Supreme God.
